- T6 : this noisy war bird (with its nine cylinders developing 600 hp) is a North American T6 created in 1935.
It was surely the most widespread fighter plane in the whole aviation story with 17,000 units built, its production ceased at the end of the second world war. It was at the beginning conceived as a training plane (corresponding to our Alphajet) and rare were the allied pilots who were not trained on a T6.
But more than the half of its career woas devoted to fight missions, armed with machine guns, bumbs, rockets, and during the algerian clash napalm tanks. The T6 went into the war even before the States began the battles, the first aircrafts were delivered to France as soon as 1939 (some of them fell into the hands of nazis). Then the British received about the half of the 4768 aircrafts they had ordered. By the end of the second world war, the France was equiped with about 450 T6. They were mostly used in an intensive manner during the algerian war, from 1956 to 1961. (Internet source Mr Lombard)
